Web Version’s New Feature: Instant Comparison of Genomic Sequences

We are introducing a new feature that allows to compare nucleotides of aligned maps with one click. First, open two maps to be compared. The lines that connect common markers or homologous genes will help you locate syntenic regions. Zoom in to the level when the visible sequence region does not exceed 1 Mbp. This should enable a green button on the top edge of a map:

Clicking this button will run BLASTN where the visible portion of the sequence on the bottom will serve as a query. In less than a second, the “ribbons” connecting identical sequences will reveal structural variation. Zoom deeper to see individual nucleotides:

The example above shows comparison of bacterial chromosomes, but this method is equally applicable to large chromosomes, such as those in wheat. This bookmark will start the web application, so that you could try the new functionality. Just push the button.
