Finger Millet Genome Added

11:45 16 September 2025 in Data sets, General News, Web Version

A new genome has been added to our collection of millet genomes: Eleusine coracana v.1.

Finger millet chromosomes 6A and 7A are aligned to pearl millet chromosome 7. The colored ribbons are based on clustered ortholog links.

We were surprised to find that all gene products in the GenBank annotation were labeled as ‘hypothetical product’. To provide some sort of functional annotation, we ran PersephoneShell’s command ‘create function‘ that finds and saves protein matches to SwissProt. Besides orthologs, we also calculated paralogs, which enables producing a synteny matrix showing internal synteny.

Paralog mapping shows intra-genomic synteny within the finger millet genome.
