New Track Type: Sequence Conservation Track

The Desktop (Windows) version can now show a new type of track: the sequence conservation track (indicated by the red arrow in the pictures below). The visual elements in this type of track designate the regions linked by the ribbon-like connectors (“ribbon anchors”). The ribbons are typically used to show which regions of the two aligned maps correspond to each other. Most of the time, such correspondence is based on the sequence similarity, so, in other words, the glyphs in the track show which sequence areas are conserved. When a given map is compared to many other sequences, the conservation track will collect such ribbon anchors making it easier to see where the sequence is conserved more.

A click on the ribbon anchor will display the corresponding region of the other syntenic map.

Note, strictly speaking, the ribbons do not have to be based on the sequence similarity. For example, in the picture below, they designate the chromosome inversions in the rice varieties.
